Ross Jeffries Speed Seduction: How the NLP Method Works

Ross Jeffries Speed Seduction explained: the NLP theory, the four doorways, pattern structure, sample lines and the mistakes that make it fall flat.

What Is Ross Jeffries Speed Seduction?

Ross Jeffries Speed Seduction is the language-driven seduction system that ran the pickup world years before negs, peacocking or group openers had names. Jeffries began studying seduction in 1988, published How to Get the Women You Desire into Bed in 1992, and later released Secrets of Speed Seduction Mastery in 2010. In between he built home study courses, a newsletter and a student mailing list that reached men in around fifteen countries. Neil Strauss calls him “the undisputed father of modern seduction,” and even the word “sarge” (going out to meet women) comes from the name of one of Jeffries’ cats, Sargy.

The engine of the system is NLP, or neuro-linguistic programming: a fusion of hypnosis and psychology built on the claim that thoughts and feelings can be influenced through words and gestures aimed below conscious awareness. Jeffries took that toolkit and pointed it at attraction. Instead of lines, he taught patterns: short stretches of hypnotic description that sound like ordinary conversation but are built to lead her into specific emotional states.

He frames the whole method in three parts:

  1. Design your own altered state. Before you speak, you install a state (your emotional and mental condition in the moment) of clarity, cockiness, intuition and playfulness.
  2. Use seductive language. Patterns, weasel phrases (softening frames like “I read something interesting”) and stories that capture and lead her imagination.
  3. Wrap it in a conversational framework. The patterns have to sound like innocent, natural conversation, or they fail.

Notice that the first part is inner game. Jeffries asked his seminar audiences to imagine an altered state where “the more attractive you found her, the more charming, the more intuitive, the more creative you were around her.” Most men skip straight to the scripts. The scripts only work when the man delivering them is in the right state.

The Core Idea: Lead Her Imagination, Not Her Logic

Every tool in Ross Jeffries Speed Seduction serves one principle, which Jeffries states plainly in his studio recordings: “Whatever you can get a person to imagine is perceived by that person as being their own thought, and therefore they don’t resist it.”

Think about what that means in a bar. If you tell her you are fun, she weighs the claim and probably discounts it. If you pile reasons on her for why she should go out with you, those reasons feel like they come from outside, and she pushes back. But if you describe a feeling vividly enough that she pictures it, the feeling is hers. She generated it. Nobody argues with their own imagination.

The community calls this the imagination-to-emotion pipeline:

  • Direct emotional appeals (“I really like you”) come across as pressure.
  • Plain facts (“I’m a lawyer, I travel a lot”) are boring.
  • Skilled description of an experience gets her imagining it, and the emotion follows on its own.

Jeffries replaced the AFC’s questions (AFC means “average frustrated chump,” the guy who thinks in terms of where to take her and what to spend) with a single question: how is this communication structured to capture and lead her imagination? He mocked the old way openly, recalling a contest among students for who had spent the most money on a woman and gotten nowhere.

Hunter vs. farmer

The philosophical frame (the underlying set of assumptions you operate from) behind the system is hunter versus farmer. Better lines, more money or higher status are just better spears; you are still out hunting. Speed Seduction is agriculture. You plant ideas and feelings, attraction grows, and women start moving toward you. In this frame, “dating” is something you do with a woman you are already sleeping with, not an audition you pay for.

Getting past the criticism factor

Jeffries describes a “criticism factor” in her mind: the rigid rules she carries, like “I only date tall guys” or “I don’t do this on a first date.” The normal dating game gives you two choices: disqualify yourself, or pretend to have whatever her filter demands. Speed Seduction’s answer is to route around the filter with trance words, embedded commands (instructions tucked inside a longer sentence and marked with tone, such as “you can just feel that connection“) and stories told in the third person. A related claim: describing a state is as powerful as commanding it, and it meets far less resistance.

The core theory: describe vividly, let her imagine, and the emotion follows without resistance.

The Master Sequence and How Speed Seduction Patterns Are Built

Jeffries’ 1994 workbook gives a four-step order that sits under almost every pattern. He compares it to baking a cake: skip a step or swap the order and the result collapses.

  1. Get her attention. Humor works best here.
  2. Establish bond and connection. Create a sense of incredible connection, often with time distortion (“it feels like we’ve known each other for ages”).
  3. Create arousal and attraction. Anchor a pleasurable state (link a feeling to a touch, gesture or word so it can be recalled later) in her body.
  4. Amplify those states and link them to you. Intensify with submodalities (the brightness, size and closeness of how she pictures something), embedded commands and quotes.

Later material refines the emotional order to comfort, then fascination, then connection, and only then lust. The New Jersey seminar notes compress all of this into two formulas worth memorising:

  • Formula One: break her current state, focus her attention on you, then take the lead on her internal representations (the pictures, self-talk and feelings running in her head).
  • Formula Two: create the state, bind it to you, then accelerate it.

The generalized pattern template

Almost every Speed Seduction pattern follows the same four-part shape:

  1. “Have you ever X?” sets up the state. (“Have you ever met someone and felt like you’d known them forever?”)
  2. A third-person story about someone experiencing X.
  3. A process description of what X is like from the inside, laced with embedded commands.
  4. Optional: shift how she pictures the feeling so it links to you.

The 3-deep stacking structure makes a pattern feel normal by moving its source closer to her in stages. First you quote an article or show. Then you quote a friend. Then you give your own view with an I-to-you shift, as in Jeffries’ line: “I find when I have those responses, it’s like you just let yourself go completely.” The “I” talks about your experience; the “you” quietly hands it to her.

Writing your own patterns

Canned patterns age fast and sound recited. Jeffries gives a simple drill for building your own:

  1. Pick a topic (travel, music, the feeling of a first dive into cold water).
  2. Ask yourself: what’s interesting to me about this?
  3. Ask: how does that happen? Your answer becomes pattern language.
  4. Ask: what else is interesting? Repeat.
  5. Close with a double bind: “What is it about X that’s so compelling, is it Y or is it Z?”

To reinforce a theme later without repeating yourself, deliver the same content again as a poem (“I heard the most amazing poem about this”) or a joke on the same subject.

Jeffries himself moved away from rote scripts. By 1997 he pushed themes over patterns: explore connection, fantasy or peak experiences together as real conversation, and weave pattern language in naturally. By 2000 he taught “targets dictate weapons”: draw out the words that light her up first, then build your stories around her own vocabulary.

The Four Doorways and Value Elicitation

The Four Doorways is Jeffries’ model of the channels through which patterns reach a woman’s mind. They are not a sequence; he is explicit that the numbering is just the order he wrote them down in. You choose patterns that target one or several.

DoorwayWhat it doesIllustrative language
1. Emotional connectionStrong positive emotion tied to you“That rare feeling of being completely understood...”
2. VisualizationShe pictures vivid scenes or fantasies“Imagine standing on a balcony somewhere warm...”
3. Body sensationsPhysical feelings described into awareness“That warmth spreading through your chest...”
4. Identity-level questionsShe accesses her core values to answer“What’s important to you about that?”

The central claim is about stacking: open all four at once and the result neurologically resembles being in love. It also explains Jeffries’ view on looks. Physical attractiveness opens only the body-sensation doorway. Language opens the rest, which is why a plain guy who talks well can outperform a handsome one who doesn’t. If you want the wider version of that argument, see how to be more attractive to women.

Jeffries also notes that for many women emotional connection is the doorway that has to open first: sexual feelings exist, but she needs to feel connected before she is comfortable acting on them. Build connection before any sexual talk.

The fourth doorway in practice: Value Solicitation

Jeffries calls value elicitation “the fourth doorway.” It is a deep pattern, used only after rapport exists, never as an opener.

  1. Establish comfort first through easy conversation or earlier patterns.
  2. Ask: “What’s important to you in a relationship?”
  3. Follow up on each value: “How do you know when you have that?” and “What must never happen?”
  4. Chunk up from qualities to values. If she says “intelligent,” that’s a quality. Ask: “When you’re with someone like that, what does that allow you to experience?” Keep going until she names a feeling, like “intellectual stimulation.”
  5. Collect three or four values and rank them with pairwise questions: “Which would you have to have most?”
  6. Weave them into one vivid sentence describing a relationship built on all of them, then ask, “Can you feel that?”

Jeffries attaches a serious warning to this pattern, and it is the right one: using it to manufacture a connection you don’t mean is dangerous and can provoke real anger. Only run it if you are actually interested in being the man who delivers on what she told you. Faking intentions to get sex is off the table here, full stop.

Running Speed Seduction in Real Conversation

Jeffries said that knowing how to bring up the patterns is “fully 1/3 of the skill,” and the hardest part for him personally. The rest flows once you have a smooth way in.

Step 1: Get your own state right

The signature Speed Seduction state drill is the 40-foot self. Picture a confident version of you, 40 feet tall, leaning back 20 to 30 degrees. Drop that image onto yourself and look out through its eyes. Then run the inner voice: “Let’s give her a chance to get to know me,” and go. This ties directly to outcome independence: patterns delivered from neediness sound like pleading.

Step 2: Open the set normally, then lead in

Speed Seduction is weakest at the cold open of a set (a person or group you approach), so most modern practitioners open with a light observational or situational line, as covered in how to approach a woman for the first time. Once she’s engaged, use a lead-in to shift into a theme:

  • “I have an intuition about you.” (Best with a stranger.)
  • “Isn’t it interesting how the mind works?”
  • “Want to see something cool about the way things work inside your mind?”

With someone you already know, narrate how you got to the thought first: “I was thinking about the people I know in my life...”

Step 3: A sample interaction (illustration)

You: Isn’t it interesting how the mind works? A friend of mine was telling me about meeting someone on a trip, and how within ten minutes it felt like they’d known each other for years.

Her: That’s happened to me once.

You: Really? What was that like? Because he said the strange part was how time just seemed to slow down, the noise around them faded, and there was this feeling of being completely at ease.

Her: Yeah, exactly that. Like you can just relax.

You: Right. And I find when I have that, it’s like you can just let yourself enjoy it without needing to explain it. What is it about that feeling that’s so compelling, is it the ease or the surprise of it?

That’s the template in miniature: “have you ever,” third-person story, process description with soft embedded language, an I-to-you shift, and a double-bind question that keeps her imagining.

Step 4: Calibrate on her responses

Watch for IOIs (indicators of interest): she leans in, holds eye contact, adds her own details, asks you questions, touches you. Those mean the doorway is open, so keep deepening the theme. IBIs (indicators of disinterest), like short answers, body turned away or eyes scanning the room, mean you’ve gone too deep too soon. Drop back to light banter or end the conversation warmly. The cues in body language of female attraction apply directly.

Kino (touch) anchoring, such as a light squeeze of her hand at the peak of a good feeling, only belongs where she is already comfortable with touch and is touching you back. The sexual accelerators in the system, including the Blammo combination pattern, are late-stage tools: in person, after comfort, when her interest is obvious. Escalation follows her interest and pace; if she slows things down, you slow down and add comfort, and a no ends it.

Common Mistakes and Sticking Points

The system has a long track record of men misusing it. These are the sticking points the community, and Jeffries himself, flag most often.

Going straight for the jugular

Jeffries admits this was his own early error. He could get women aroused within minutes using sexual patterns, but because he came on strong without softening them up first, “I only succeeded in scaring them off.” Fix: follow the cake recipe. Attention, connection, comfort, and only then arousal.

Reciting scripts

Patterns are examples, not rigid scripts. A memorised pattern delivered in a monotone sounds like a sales pitch. Fix: practice out loud for tonality and tempo, learn a little each day, drill transitions with flash cards, and prepare two setups for every pattern so you can bring it up naturally.

Not feeling it yourself

If you describe deep connection while feeling nothing, she picks up the incongruence. Fix: feel at least a sliver of the emotion before you describe it. Congruence here isn’t a slogan; it’s a pre-delivery step.

Using patterns as a shield or a plea

Some men hide behind patterns to avoid the risk of plain conversation, or use them to beg. Jeffries warns against both. Fix: keep the interaction mutual. Ask real questions, share your own views, let her lead stretches of it.

Using language to override her decisions

Early Speed Seduction material included patterns for talking a woman out of a cancelled date. Don’t. A decision she has stated is a decision to respect; trying to reprogram it is persistence after a no. If she cancels, say something light and let her come back to you if she wants to.

Judging by the instant reaction

Jeffries notes that some women respond on a delay, sometimes much later. Don’t panic and stack more patterns because she looks neutral. Stay relaxed, keep the conversation fun.

One-size-fits-all

For women who are sexually open but emotionally guarded, Jeffries suggests swapping connection language for body-sensation language. The broader lesson: read which doorway is actually open instead of forcing your favourite one.

How Ross Jeffries Speed Seduction Compares to Modern Game

Newer community members often see Ross Jeffries Speed Seduction as dated next to Mystery-derived methods, and Jeffries has claimed his approach is far more powerful than Mystery’s. The honest answer is that they solve different problems.

AspectSpeed SeductionMystery MethodDavid DeAngelo
Main toolHypnotic language patternsStructured phases and routinesBehavior and sexual tension
Strongest phaseConnection and deepeningOpening groups and attractionAttraction through cocky-funny
Attraction leverHer imagination and emotionsDHV (demonstrating higher value) and negsTeasing, confidence, touch
Typical failureSounds scripted or creepyCanned routines, little depthTeasing that tips into rudeness

DeAngelo’s interview with Jeffries adds a useful correction to the early material: patterns work far less by imposing structures on her and far more by awakening feelings that are already there. Ask lightly what she finds most fulfilling about something, use her own words back to her, and offer to explore it together. That is a much healthier, and more effective, way to run the system.

A practical hybrid looks like this: open and build attraction with the structure from the Mystery Method’s phases, use light teasing instead of heavy negs (see what negging actually is), then switch to Speed Seduction themes once she’s invested and the conversation has room to go deeper. What to keep and what to leave

  • Keep: the imagination principle, vivid storytelling, the “have you ever” template, value elicitation used sincerely, and the inner-state drills.
  • Leave: rote scripts, sexual patterns before comfort, faked values, and any use of language to wear down a decision she has made.

Jeffries presents his tools as value-neutral; the user supplies the values. Used to create a shared, vivid experience she enjoys, Ross Jeffries Speed Seduction is a strong conversational toolkit. Used to trick her, it backfires, and it deserves to. Browse more breakdowns of the community’s systems on the Gentleman Savvy journal.

Questions men ask

FAQ

Does Speed Seduction still work today?

The core principle still holds: lead her imagination and the feelings follow, which is how good storytelling works anyway. What has aged badly is rote recitation of long hypnotic scripts. Men who get results with it today use themes, such as connection or peak experiences, explored as real conversation, with pattern language woven in. Combine that with solid approach skills, calibration to her interest and a grounded inner state, and the tools add real depth to an interaction.

Is there a free PDF of Secrets of Speed Seduction Mastery?

Secrets of Speed Seduction Mastery was published by Ross Jeffries in 2010, and his earlier book, How to Get the Women You Desire into Bed, came out in 1992. The free download pages and course download sites circulating online are unofficial copies, often bundled with spam or worse. Buy the book through normal channels, then spend your energy on practice. The framework in this article covers the theory those materials teach.

What is the difference between Speed Seduction and the Mystery Method?

Speed Seduction works through language: hypnotic patterns, embedded commands and anchoring aimed at her imagination and emotions. The Mystery Method works through structure and behaviour: group openers, demonstrations of higher value, negs and a phased model of attraction, comfort and seduction. Speed Seduction came first and dominated the community until Mystery's rise. Many men now use Mystery-style structure to open and attract, then borrow Speed Seduction language to deepen comfort and connection.

Is Speed Seduction manipulative?

It can be. Jeffries presents the tools as value-neutral, and his early 1994 material was frankly manipulative. Used well, the same tools are vivid storytelling and real curiosity about what she values. The lines to hold: describe feelings you actually share, never fake values you will not deliver on, never use patterns to talk her out of a decision she has made, and let escalation follow her interest. A clear no ends it, every time.

What is the Blammo pattern in Speed Seduction?

Blammo is Ross Jeffries' favourite combination pattern. It stacks comfort, an instant-connection story, anchoring, changes to how she pictures the feeling, intensification and sexual quotes into one sequence. He treats it as the finishing move, delivered in person as a sexual accelerator. It only belongs late in an interaction, when she is already showing strong interest and is comfortable with you. Run it early and it scares women off.
